Volunteer
The WVU Herbarium welcomes student and adult volunteers of all backgrounds who are interested in plants, biodiversity or botanical curation. Volunteer opportunities include general sorting and filing, mounting specimens, data entry and plant identification, depending on interest and skills.
WVU students may work through the college Work-Study program, or for course credit in BIOL 491. Participants in the West Virginia Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs may satisfy their service hour credits by volunteering in the herbarium.
There is no minimum number of hours required to volunteer (although there may be to meet the requirements of the above programs); however, a 2-3 hour block is recommended for the best experience and use of your time. Volunteers must be available to work during weekdays 9 – 4; there is some possibility for extended hours for WVU students after the training period.
