The Department of Biology has an innovative vision to transform biological research and teaching. Through our state-of-the-art facilities, we encourage collaboration across disciplines. We take the lead to address challenges through research spanning from the molecular level to entire ecosystems. We engage students in hands-on research and redefine the student experience. 

Our facilities are an environment for cutting-edge research and teaching, enabling us to prepare the next generation of scientists and industry leaders while encouraging faculty scholarship.

The Department of Biology is located in the Life Sciences Building located on the WVU downtown campus. The $50 million building opened in 2001, and was officially dedicated on October 17, 2002.

  • The Department of Biology administrative offices are in 3139. 
  • Faculty labs and offices are on the fourth and fifth floors.
  • The Ecotron and greenhouse are on the penthouse floor.
  • The WVU Herbarium is in the basement.
