Role: PhD Candidate,
I study the tsetse fly microbiota, specifically the relationship between the mutualistic Wigglesworthia bacteria and the fly host. Tsetse flies have a strict blood-feeding diet and are reliant on these bacteria to provide nutrients lacking in their diet. I look at the gene expression and regulation by microRNAs (miRNAs) occurring in the primary organ occupied by these bacteria.
