Welcome From Dr. Thomas
I am delighted that you are interested in the Department of Biology at West Virginia University, where students receive small college advantages in a large university setting, including a personalized curriculum, expert academic and career advising, a sophomore career seminar course and small upper-level biology classes.
Our undergraduate majors can work toward a BS or BA in biology, and can focus their curriculum on areas of emphasis in neuroscience, genomics, cell and molecular or ecology and environmental biology. Our faculty are experts in teaching and research across a remarkable diversity of disciplines in the biological sciences – from genes to ecosystems.
Our students participate in world-class biological research and, during the 2015-16 academic
year, over 100 of our undergraduate students were enrolled in independent biology
research courses with faculty in our department and across the WVU campus. A graduate
from our department will be well prepared for a rigorous medical, dental or graduate
school curriculum. We also have strong graduate programs where students work toward
their MS and PhD degrees in biology.
Welcome to the Department of Biology! This website will introduce you to many of the opportunities and resources that are available to you.Richard Thomas, Ph.D.
