Advising Information and Registration

Advising is done twice a year. Scheduling for the fall semester is usually in March and for the spring semester scheduling is usually in October. Advising is arranged in order of individual classification types of advising.

Students should receive an email from their advisor with directions for making an appointment. Advisees are expected to arrive a few minutes early to obtain necessary advising forms. The Division will then release the registration hold, please allow 24 hours for the hold to be lifted.

It is very important that advisees make and keep advising appointments. Most faculty are on nine month appointment and are not available in the summer for exception approvals; advisees who choose not to meet with their adviser during priority registration may have registration issues later, and lower class availability.

Advising only lasts for two to three weeks so plan accordingly.

Student Classifications are based on the number of hours that will be completed by the end of this term. It is recommended that students advise the week prior to their priority registration date.

  • Monday, March 19 – Professional, Graduate, Honors, Disabled, and Athletes
  • Tuesday, April 3 – Seniors (89+ hrs)
  • Thursday, April 5 – Juniors (59-88 hrs)
  • Monday, April 9 – Sophomores (29-58 hrs)
  • Wednesday, April 11 – Freshmen (0-28 hrs)

Advisees should come prepared for advising, your advisor should send you an email with advising directions. You may be asked to print, from Mix, an unofficial transcript. Please come for your appointment prepared. It is the advisees responsibility to keep track of their progress and degree requirements.

Please prepare a tentative schedule with the courses you are interested in taking the upcoming semester. If you are a senior, please research the potential capstone courses so that we can discuss your options accordingly.

Students planning for May graduation must complete a graduation application. Forms are available in the office and on the web. Students are asked to hand carry these forms to Rose Eavenson’s office in 221 Armstrong Hall.
